Choosing an emulsion
Which finish should I pick?
Matt is the flattest finish and hides uneven plaster best. Soft sheen and eggshell add a low shine that wipes clean more easily. Silk is the shiniest of the four and the easiest to wipe, but it also shows up bumps in the wall. For busy hallways that need a matt look, choose the scrubbable matt.
What should I use in a kitchen or bathroom?
Pick one of the moisture-resistant paints: the bathroom emulsion resists moisture, steam and mould, and the kitchen emulsion resists moisture, splashes and food stains. The kitchen & bathroom paints come in the designer shades or any RAL / BS code.
Can you match a RAL or British Standard colour?
Yes. Paints marked RAL / BS can be mixed to order: choose "Mixed colour – RAL" or "Mixed colour – British Standard" as the colour on the product page, or enter your own colour code.
What goes on fresh plaster?
Contract matt emulsion is made as the first coat on newly plastered walls and ceilings, and the factory emulsion is breathable, so new plaster can dry out underneath it. Follow with your chosen topcoat, and check the tin for drying times before you start.
