How to install

A new damp-proof course in six steps

Seen from the face of the wall: one hole every 100 mm or closer, along one joint.
Numbers match the steps.

Before you start

Fix any leaking gutters or drains. Take off skirting and wall finishes, and hack off salt-contaminated plaster up to 300 mm above the highest damp mark. Check floor timbers for rot.

  1. Pick the joint

    Choose a mortar bed joint at least 150 mm above the outside ground, or level with a solid inside floor. Inside and outside DPCs should line up.

  2. Drill the holes

    Use the 12 mm SDS bit. Drill level, no more than 100 mm apart, stopping 20 mm short of the wall’s full thickness.

  3. Clear the dust

    Vacuum or blow out every hole so the cream fills it fully.

  4. Load the gun

    Cut the top of the cartridge, fit the nozzle (extend it for thick walls) and load it into the applicator gun.

  5. Inject from the back

    Push the nozzle to the back of the hole and fill as you pull out, stopping about 10 mm from the face.

  6. Seal each hole

    Fill the last 10 mm with mortar or a DPC injection plug, then let the wall dry out before replastering.
